Digital Waste Tracking, handled at the gate and at the kerbside.
CarrierNote is on the GOV.UK software provider list for DEFRA's Digital Waste Tracking service. Whether you take waste in or carry it, you capture the load once, it's checked against the rules before anything is sent, and the signed record is kept for as long as the law requires.

Free on every plan, with no app store to go through
The mobile app is free on every plan, including Pilot. There’s nothing to download from an app store and no store account to set up. Install it from a link in a few taps on a recent iPhone or Android phone. It works on an iPad too.
You do it with Add to Home Screen, which is a button in your phone’s browser menu that puts a website on your home screen as its own icon. You won’t find it in the App Store, and that’s the point.
- It updates itself
- It works with no signal, and syncs when you’re back
The app costs nothing extra, and your plan stays the same. Pilot still records ten waste movements a calendar month, whichever way you capture them.
How to install the mobile appPaper waste transfer notes are on the way out
From October 2027, waste carriers, brokers and dealers must record every waste movement digitally through DEFRA's new Digital Waste Tracking service. Paper transfer notes won't be enough on their own.
If you run a site that takes waste in, such as a transfer station, treatment site or tip, your deadline comes first. You record every load you accept from October 2026 in England and Wales, and from January 2027 in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and CarrierNote logs it at the gate and files your receipt with DEFRA.
The mandate is not there to catch you out. Whichever date is yours, it asks the same thing of you. Every load's facts have to end up in a structured digital record rather than on a paper pad, and a business already working that way barely notices the switch. Come to it after your date and the job is no different, so you can be recording to DEFRA's standard from your next load.
Capture it once, and the paperwork follows
A collection produces the same facts whether you write them on a pad in the cab or type them into a phone. CarrierNote takes them once, at the point the waste changes hands, then does everything the rules ask of them afterwards.
Capture and sign on site
Fill the record in the van or on the pavement, with or without a signal. EWC codes (the six-digit European Waste Catalogue numbers that say what a waste is), weights and descriptions are checked as you type, and whoever hands the waste over signs on the screen before you drive away.
Hazardous loads included
A hazardous load needs a consignment note as well as a transfer note. CarrierNote asks for the HP codes (the hazard properties, such as flammable or corrosive) and the consignment note code where they apply, and won't let one through blank without a reason, which is what gets a submission rejected. POPs (persistent organic pollutants, the harmful chemicals in things like older sofas) work the same way.
Connected to DEFRA, ready to send
Every record DEFRA takes comes back with a Waste Tracking ID, its own reference for that movement. CarrierNote is connected to the live service. It files a receiving site's incoming loads with DEFRA today, and it's built to send carrier movements the moment DEFRA opens that step. Either way the ID is stored against the record, so the proof sits with the paperwork.
A record you can hand over
A transfer note is kept for the two years the waste duty of care requires, and a hazardous consignment note for three, with nothing deleted out from under you. When a regulator or a customer asks for a year of movements, you filter the list and export it as a CSV.
Ready is a way of working, not a date in the diary
- Structured digital records from your first collection, so there's nothing to retype for DEFRA
- Hazardous waste and POPs handled in the same flow as everything else, rather than on a separate form
- Works offline with no mobile signal, because the kerbside is where the record actually gets made
- Every movement you've captured, searchable and exportable whenever someone asks for it
We started a waste business and built this instead
We registered Ivory Clearance Ltd in early 2026 to run waste clearance on the Wirral. Reading up on what the paperwork asks of a carrier, and on the Digital Waste Tracking dates coming down the line, we changed direction before the first job and built CarrierNote. The record is what catches people out, months after the load has gone.

On the list and connected
CarrierNote is on the GOV.UK software provider list for Digital Waste Tracking and connected to the live service, built to submit carrier movements the moment DEFRA opens that step and store the Waste Tracking ID against every job. Records are kept for as long as the law requires.

Get your waste records onto CarrierNote. It logs a receiving site's incoming loads and files them with DEFRA today, and it's ready to send carrier movements the moment DEFRA opens that step. The free plan is ten waste movements a calendar month on real jobs rather than a demo, with no card and no time limit.
