Cookie notice

What cookies CarrierNote sets, why, and how to manage them.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. They let a website remember things between page loads, like whether you're signed in.

Cookies we use

CarrierNote uses a small number of cookies, all of which are essential to making the service work. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Reading this site sets no cookies at all, and neither does making a waste transfer note with our free tool. The cookies below are set when you sign in to the app, and only then.

CookiePurposeDuration
better-auth.session_tokenKeeps you signed in to the app. Without it, you would need to log in on every page.7 days from when you last used the app
better-auth.session_dataA short-lived signed copy of your session, so every page you open does not have to ask the database who you are.A few minutes

Your browser shows both names with a __Secure- prefix, so better-auth.session_token appears as __Secure-better-auth.session_token. That prefix is a browser rule that stops the cookie being sent over anything but an encrypted connection.

How we count visits to this site

We count visits to this website with Cloudflare Web Analytics, so we know how many people read which pages. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, so there’s nothing here for you to accept or turn off. Cloudflare uses your IP address for a moment to work out which country you’re in, then throws it away.

What we see is totals, like the number of visits to the pricing page from the UK this week, and nothing that tells us who you are. The app you sign in to doesn’t use it.

Essential vs non-essential

All cookies listed above are essential. They are required for the service to function (signing in, maintaining your session) and cannot be switched off without breaking the app. Because they are strictly necessary, consent is not required under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).

If we add non-essential cookies in the future (for example, analytics), we will update this policy and ask for your consent before setting them.

Where the data behind them is stored

The cookies above are set by us, not by an advertiser, and nothing here follows you to other websites. The sign-in data behind them lives in the same place as the rest of your data: the systems we run in the European Union, with a small amount handled in the United States by the companies that send our email and take our payments.

Our privacy notice has the full picture, and our sub-processor list names each company and the country it holds data in.

How to manage cookies

You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Be aware that blocking the session cookie will prevent you from signing in to CarrierNote. Instructions for managing cookies vary by browser; check your browser's help documentation.
