Free teaching resources on waste

Lessons for UK schools on what happens to waste after the bin lorry leaves, and who is responsible for it on the way. They're free to print and adapt, and there's nothing to sign up for.

Resources by key stage

The first resources are being written and checked now, and each one appears here as soon as it’s ready. They start with a card activity on duty of care (the legal duty to hand waste only to someone allowed to take it) for upper key stage 2 and key stage 3.

Who made these, and why

CarrierNote is a small company on the Wirral that makes software for waste carriers and the sites that take waste in. Our work is the paperwork that follows waste from one business to the next, so it’s the part of the story we know best.

Schools already have plenty on recycling. We found very little on who is responsible for waste once it leaves the bin, or on what happens when nobody checks where it goes. That’s the gap these resources fill.

One of our founders is a qualified former primary teacher, and checks every resource for accuracy and for the ages it names before it goes up. Each one comes with teacher’s notes, timings and answers, so you can run it without us.

The resources teach the topic, not our software. We don’t ask for your email address, and there’s no account to make.

Each resource is written for England and says where Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland differ.
